Valborgsmässoafton...vintern rasat ut....!

Valpurgian Eve...the winter is officially gone...!

Vi firar med brasa , fyrverkeri och Sima...en finsk klassiker varje Valborg gjort på vatten, citron ,strösocker, farinsocker och jäst! Russinen talar om när den är färdig ...för då flyter de upp till ytan. Gott och läskande!

We are celebrating with bonfires, fireworks and "Sima" a finnish tradition, a homebrewed mead , made on water, lemon, white and brown sugar, yeast...delicious! The raisins are an indicator because they rise to the surface when it's ready to serve...Delicious and refreshing!

Valpurgian Eve...the winds are a bit cold ....

Men det gör inget...

But it doesn't matter...

Solen skiner och laxpaj med rött vin som omväxling!...

Sun is still shining and a salmon pie with red wine for a change ...is waiting!...

 vintern och onda andar skall skrämmas bort i kväll...

the winter and evil spirits will be driven away tonight...

Välkommen Maj! / Welcome May!

Äntligen Maj! Eller skall man säga Maj??...redan?? Vänta nu...jag har inte hunnit med trädgården än!!... Aaaaatjo!!

May at last! Or should I say: May?...already?? Wait a minute...I haven´t had time to fix in my garden yet!!....Aaaatchheee!! (big sneeze!)

Visst är det underbar med det skira gröna...Aaaaatjoo!...snörvel...fast inge kul när man är allergisk. Men lite tabletter och det går bra ändå...

Isn´t it wonderful with all the fresh new green leaves...Aaaatcheee!...snuffle...but no fun if You´re allergic. But a couple of pills and it´s OK anyway....

Valborgsmässoaftonen var magisk...underbart varmt...som en grekisk sommarkväll....

Valpurgis eve was magic...wonderfully warm...like an evening in Greece...

Doften från grillröken ,lite stämningsfull grekisk musik blandades med fågelsång...kan det bli bättre?...

The scents from the barbeque, some lovely musik from Greece mixed with birdsong...Can it get any better?...

I rabatterna trängs vårens blommor... dessa bor dock i min mors underbara trädgård....

The springflowers mingle in the flowerbeds...these live in my mothers wonderful garden though...

De här börjar komma upp både här och där... Jag försöker plantera så många jag kan varje år...Jag vill att min trädgård skall se ut som Tasha Tudors !

These daffoidils are coming up bothe here and there...I try to plant as many as I can every year! I want my garden to look like Tasha Tudors Garden!

Många såna vill jag ha!....

Kvällen spenderade vi vid vår lokala majbrasa vid sjön...

We spent the evening at our local Valpugis bonfire by the lake...

Vi skrämmer bort häxor och onda andar och välkomnar våren!...

We scare the witches and evil spirits away and welcome the spring!...

Överallt syns brasor och fyrverkerier...denna tvärs över sjön på andra sidan vid båtklubbens strand...

There are bonfires and fireworks everywhere ...this one is across the lake on the other side at the boatclubs beach...

Valborg / Spring Bonfire

Vintern ra.... Äntligen är det officiellt vår! Vitsipporna står som spön i backen. eldarna tänds och vi får sjunga alla gamla sånger igen....
Spring is officially here! Wildwood windflower (Anemone) light up the ground everywhere.


Tonight we are going celebrating Walpurgis Night, or Valborg in Swedish. It is a holiday in Sweden, celebrating the arrival of spring.
On this night, large bonfires are lit in all of our country, and families gather around these “majbrasor”, or May Fires, to listen to choirs, join in the singing, watch fireworks and celebrate. The traditional function of this was to protect against the evil witches at large on this night.

For a taste of Sweden on Valborg night You can listen to one of the most typical springsongs this holiday: Vintern Rasat (“The winter has fallen”)

Studentfesterna är väl i full gång med champagnefrukostar , sång och vita mössor!

As with many festivals and events in Sweden, singing is an integral part of Valborg. These spring songs were popularized and spread by the student communities, and the strongest Valborg traditions still remain in the country’s two oldest universities, Lund in the south and Uppsala, just to the north of Stockholm. From early in the morning until late into the night, white-capped students will be celebrating the last day of April, “sista April” with champagne breakfasts and singing to welcome the spring.
